Description
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Aggregate Plant Leader, gain practical experience and exposure to the day-to-day operation of an aggregate facility, including production, plant and mobile equipment, maintenance, quality control, shipping, safety, environmental compliance, and basic supervisory and leadership practices. Work alongside plant leadership and other team members to develop an understanding of how aggregate operations are safely and efficiently managed to meet production, quality, cost, and customer requirements. This position is intended to provide hands-on learning and developmental experience in aggregate operations.
Essential Functions:
*Work closely with the Aggregate Plant Leader, General Foreman, and other plant personnel to learn the day-to-day operation of an aggregate facility.
*Gain exposure to aggregate production processes, including material extraction, crushing, screening, material handling, stockpiling, and loadout.
*Learn how plant and mobile equipment are utilized to support safe and efficient production.
*Assist with and observe plant and facility inspections and learn to identify and report potential safety, operational, and maintenance concerns.
*Develop an understanding of GOH safety practices and applicable MSHA requirements and how they apply to aggregate operations.
*Gain exposure to environmental requirements and the role of regulatory compliance in plant and pit operations.
*Learn the importance of product quality, material gradations, inventory management, and coordination with Quality Control personnel.
*Observe and assist with preventive maintenance activities and plant repairs to develop an understanding of equipment reliability, availability, and operating efficiency.
*Gain exposure to pit operations, stripping activities, mine planning, and the coordination of production activities.
*Learn shipping, loadout, scale house, and inventory processes and how production is coordinated with customer needs.
*Assist with entering, maintaining, and reviewing production and operational data and records.
*Gain exposure to production goals, equipment utilization, operating costs, budgets, and other measures used to evaluate plant performance.
*Observe how plant leadership plans work, communicates expectations, delegates responsibilities, resolves problems, and coordinates employees and resources.
*Develop an understanding of the role plant leadership plays in employee training, development, motivation, and overall team performance.
*Communicate and work effectively with Plant, Maintenance, Quality Control, Shipping, and other personnel involved in aggregate operations.
*Participate in safety meetings, training activities, and other operational meetings as appropriate.
*Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
*Perform additional assignments and developmental activities as directed by supervisor.
Knowledge of:
*Basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
*Basic math and recordkeeping principles.
*General workplace safety practices.
Ability to:
*Learn and follow GOH company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
*Learn aggregate production processes, equipment, terminology, and operating practices.
*Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
*Follow instructions and ask questions when clarification is needed.
*Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and other personnel.
*Observe operations, identify issues, and develop problem-solving skills.
*Work safely in an active aggregate plant and field environment.
*Adapt to changing assignments and learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
*Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
*Demonstrated interest in learning aggregate operations, heavy equipment, construction materials, mining, engineering, operations management, or a related field.
*Willingness to learn through both hands-on experience and observation.
Education:
*High school diploma or equivalent required.
*Currently enrolled in or recently completed a college, university, technical, or trade school program in mining, engineering, construction management, operations management, industrial technology, geology, environmental studies, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
*Previous aggregate, construction, mining, manufacturing, or heavy equipment experience is helpful but not required.
*No previous supervisory or aggregate operations experience required.
Required Training:
*MSHA training, as applicable.
*GOH safety and orientation training.
*Additional job-specific training as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
*Constant (67-100%) – Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
*Occasionally (0-33%) – Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
*Occasionally (0-33%) – Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
*Occasionally (0-33%) – Ability to work in a field environment with exposure to dust, inclement weather conditions, extreme heat and cold.
*Occasionally (0-33%) – Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain.
